SchoolMessenger notification system changes

posted Jan 13, 2016, 11:23 AM by Peter Robinson   [ updated Jan 13, 2016, 11:28 AM ]
You may have noticed that you are no longer receiving routine announcement calls from school. This is because a recent Federal Communications Commission ruling means that, without your prior consent, we may no longer call you except in an emergency.

Emergencies would include but not be limited to:

  • school being closed due to weather
  • your child is absent and we have not heard from you
  • lockdowns and other emergency situations at school

If you would like to continue to receive notifications about other things, such as school events, informational meetings etc. you will need to give us consent to make those calls. The process for giving consent is outlined below. Remember….if you wish to continue to receive school related messages, you must allow us to contact you.

Parents who use PowerSchool (AMS and ELHS)

To change your preferences please log in to PowerSchool with your parent account and follow these  directions. (These can also be downloaded directly from the PowerSchool Grades and Attendance screen).

If you haven’t set up your parent account yet:
  • contact your school and ask for your Parent ID and Password
  • 'go to https://powerschool.auburnschl.edu
  • click the Create Account

If you have difficulty creating your account, contact Alex Horrocks (ahorrocks@auburnschl.edu) at AMS or Calvin Hunter (chunter@auburnschl.edu) at ELHS.
Parents who do not use PowerSchool

You will need to set up an account at <<http://contactme.schoolmessenger.com>>. Directions are attached. During the set up process you will be asked for your child's ID number and Activation Code. Please contact your school for this information.

Once you have set up the account please follow these directions to set your preferences to allow general information calls to be made to at least one number.

We will also be offering the option to opt to receive text messages without the need to create an account. On January 29, 2016 we will send a single text to all numbers in our system. To opt in and continue to receive texts, all you have to do is reply Y to that message.

If you have any questions or concerns about setting your preferences, please contact your school.
